Location

For our piece, we decided to create the action film movie entrance in an unconventional place, of a family home. Normally in action films, you will see locations in stereotypical dark ally ways or empty buildings, as it helps to create a tense atmosphere before a fight. However, we decided to use a family home, as it will be more of a surprise to the viewers, when they see a fight occur. I like it when films use unconventional places, as the moment comes unexpected. This, for me, creates more impact when the viewers see violence happen. A family home is somewhere people wouldn't expect to see a fight break loose, which means they hopefully will find it more interesting seeing a unique situation in this setting.

The pictures above shows some of our set up. Equipment included a tripod, for steadiness and increased height of the camera, and the camera, for our filming of the production.

Our set and props were something we felt was important in order to create a better mise-en-scene. The dining table and plates help to connote family and love to the audience, which is then twisted, at the sudden change of events. It brings the idea that the two girls would of had dinner and a relaxed evening, creating the idea of a loving family environment. This helps to create more of a contrast against the action filled evening the viewers find them having. It also shows that the fight was unplanned, as they had something else they were going to do. We lit the candles to also create the idea od a cosy setting, which was again ruined by the event of a fight.

Risk Assessment

We have a risk of knocking over plates. This could lead to having shards of seramic in the carpet, which could lead to people getting cut hands or feet. To prevent this you could put cling film near the table where the plates could fall off. This would help with not leaving shards in the carpet or on the floor for people to later stand on and hurt them selves. To also prevent this we could push the plates futher onto the table so they have less chance of them falling of.

Another risk we have a chance of getting is accidently hurting each other when we do the fight scene. Although we have practised we might hit each other for real. We could hit each other in the stomach, face, or wherever we aim to hit. To prevent this we need to take extra procession on where we aim and how far away we are from each other. We will take more care for this. We know how far away we have to be and how we have fake the fight we are doing.

We have a risk of knocking over food and drink that was on the table. This could lead to us slipping and injuring our selves.

ANY HAZARDS?   YES/NO?  LEVEL?       WHAT CAN WE DO TO REDUCE IT?
Anything that could cause a slip or a fall - yes - medium - We put all the things that could cause us to fall out of the way. And we keep the drinks or snacks we have out of the way too.
Manual Handling - yes - medium - We are using cameras and tripods and possible delicate other items, so we take care. And when holding the camera we use the wrist strap.
Electrical Equipment -  yes - medium - Make sure wires are well secured so no one trip over them. And move all none electrical equipment out of the way of it getting damaged.
Fire - yes - medium - We lit candles. So we could have burnt our selves or burnt the house. But we made sure that we were careful around them. We made sure we blew the candles out after we had finished filming.
Setting up,the use, taking down of equipment - yes - low - We have a low chance of dropping the camera but if use the wrist strap it will be less likely and be careful of where we put the tripod and be careful that we don't knock it over.
Weather - yes - medium - The weather in Britain can change dramatically so one minute it can be sunny then rainy. this could effect our filming as we do some filming outside. It could end up              getting rain on our lens and that could effect the picture. The rain could also make the floor slippy so the actors could fall over. Unfortunately there was a bit of rain when we were filming, or it had just filmed so we had to take extra percussion.
Food hygiene - yes - medium - Faith has a rather bad nut allergy so we need to make sure that all food is specially checked that there isn't a chance that Faith could have an allergic reaction.

More tutorials

I looked online for help using the Imovie, i thought this would be good to search for me as it would be my first time using this editing software. I thought it would be best for me to have an idea of what we were using and how to use the software effectively, rather than wasting a lesson where we could be editing we spend trying to figure out we have to do.

Social Network Survey Results

After putting the link to the survey on Facebook I have had a few results. The results that I got where:
That people like fast pace editing as it gives them a sense of excitement and joy.
That people like to see the use of weapons, as it gives an even more rush of excitement and adrenaline as they want to see who survives and likes the idea of seeing people rush from bullets and whatever is flying in their direction.
People would like to see more girl leads, as most action films have male leads. Although action films do get a lot of publicity and does enchant to a lot of people, they feel that they are very masculine base as almost all films have male leads.

I feel that after this we need to make sure that we have a  main women would be the protagonist. We will still have a male involved as that will help with the male audience, and possibly help with the connections within the film.
We will also make sure that there is some fast pace editing, especially within the fight scene. We want the fight scene to look realistic but it will also bring some excitement for the audience that is watching.

Costume Ideas

There are ideas that i have for costume.
The hero would wear lighter clothes and look smart. They would be there day to day clothes, they would also have neutral make-up. Unlike the villain that would wear dark clothing which would usually be mostly black, and be less smart that the hero. There hair would usually be slick back and up in a pony tail if a women, and short spikey hair if a man. Women would usually wear darker make-up, for example smokey eyes.
I thought this as most people in action films are like this. We can usually tell the difference  from who is the antagonist, and the protagonists.

Discussion

In this audio chat, we discuss many ideas that we have had, and the ideas that we believe might work and however, might not in contrary. In this voice recording we talk about some of the ideas we have in for our production. We mostly discuss the fight scene, and the beginning of the production of what happens. We decided that there will be 3 main characters, and that their relationship will be siblings.

Response to the brief and our ideas

I have chosen to do the video brief for my assessment. I am working in a group of three with Faith Starie and Karlton Armstrong. I feel that it will allow us to use a large range of media techniques and camera shots and editing techniques. Doing the print brief may have to allowed me to use my full amount of media techniques and understanding of media terms. Deciding to do the video brief  I feel that we will be able to show off our media techniques and camera shots. Being able to edit the video as well will show that we are able to use the computers and editing apps to make the video clip  flow together.

We are now thinking about the genre we want to do;
comedy as whole was defiantly not a option to make as it can turn out rather bad.
horror/ thriller was another genre that we decided not to use. we decided this as it a cliche and we didn't want to follow the crowd.
I also thought romance films was another type of genre that we wouldn't do as it can be again to cliche.
we decided that action/adventure/thriller would be best suited for us, although there will be more adventure in it as we do not have the right equipment to make all the effects of what would happen if it was a budgeted film. Some of the films produced do not look professional at all while some do. We are aiming to make it look as professional as possible. The pros and cons of deciding to do a action film is being able to show that we are able to use a variety of camera shots as doing a fight scene will need a lot of effective shots that show what the fight would look like if it was real and injuring someone. The cons of doing this though is that if we don't manage on getting the fight scene shots looking perfect it can make the whole scene look terrible.

We decided that our target audience is teenagers, specifically from the ages of 14 to 25 for both genders. Boys are usually drawn to it due to the action sequences and the usual pretty girl that the hero tries to save, the girls are also interested too but not for the same reasons. The girls may watch the film if the hero is a good looking man,  Those who are younger than 14 may find it quite scary and frightening as they may not like the types of action going on. they may also not understand the story line that the film has either.

Our initial idea is that someone is going to bed at night and being able to see what they see in the dream. Then at the end of the two minute video we see them waking up and finding out their vivid dream wasn't real, but then finding out something strange is happening in their real lives too. There are many ideas that we all had for what could happen during the two minute video... we also had many more ideas:

An idea, we had as a group was that the equilibrium is going to be where there is a small group of friends or family sitting at a table at home, the disruption will be two of these people will look at each other and do some sort of signal. The recognition of the disruption is when they'd get up and do something violent to the other people sitting at the table. We might do a flash back on how they joined together and why they were after the people.  We'd finish the two minute video on a focus on the object/weapon they would use to hurt they other people.
We have finally decided that our genre of thriller and action. We decided this as many of our ideas went in the way of thriller and action, so decided that it is easier to think and make of our final production.
